GENERATES LIVELY & INFORMATIVE DISCUSSION
I appreciate the fifty plus persons that attended my two Town Meetings
on September 20, 1997. The interest so many people have in their
government always strengthens my view of our representative form of
Democracy. During my 13 years of service I have found these meetings
to be an excellent way to keep in touch with your concerns and to
maintain two-way communication. The recent town meetings also provided
me with an opportunity to give an update on issues that we dealt with
during the 1997 legislative session.
EMERGENCY SERVICES
We had a lively and informative discussion on a variety of topics,
including emergency services at the Marlowe meeting. Both Robbie
Robinson from the Bedington Volunteer Fire & Rescue and Captain Will
Ball from the Williamsport Fire Department discussed providing service
to Northern Berkeley County and the cooperation between the two
departments.
Berkeley County Sheriff Ron Jones provided an update on law enforcement
including his efforts in getting West Virginia residents with
out-of-state tags to register in this state. He sought the assistance of
those in attendance in reporting cases of violation. He also discussed
what laws he is able to enforce in subdivisions.
UPDATES RT 9 MAP AT FIRE HALL
Rt. 9 and its status were discussed. I have left a map of the latest
proposal from the Division of Highways at the Baker Heights Volunteer
Fire Department. It is a combination of the three alternatives proposed
earlier. This plan is being submitted for final approval including
historical and environmental concerns. The tentative plan of the DOH
is to get the final approval and to complete design and land acquisition
during the 1998-99 time frame. Construction could start in the first
half of 1999 with completion in late 2000 or early 2001.
